Baby Q Weber Cooking | Flavour at it’s finest
Camp Cooking and the Baby Q
What I have heard about Weber BBQ’s and in particular the little Weber baby Q has proven to be entirely true. When we were preparing for our next adventure, bus life in ‘Fork’, we always knew we would be doing a substantial amount of outdoor cooking. Over the years both Miss Linda and I have done a large amount of campfire and camp oven cooking and although we love it, it’s not always practical or possible. ‘Fork the Bus’ does have a full kitchen but the ability to cook outside was always a must.
So, we were in the market for a small portable and most important versatile BBQ. With this criteria in mind the name that always seems to pop up is Weber, and in particular the range of Weber Q’s. Some of the reports from friends who have one were “We cook on it nearly every night” and “I don’t know how we got by without our Q”. This along with the fact that when you are out about in the caravan and camping world it seems the majority of people out there have one or something that looks like a Weber Q.
After some research and shopping for specials around Boxing Day we got our own Weber Baby Q online for a great price through a large retail outlet. We do love our cooking and when we picked up our new purchase it was more than a little exciting and we couldn’t wait to try it out. On our return home we totally ignored our completely new renovated kitchen, with all new appliances, and fired up the new Q.
This is why I say that everything I have heard about this wonderful little BBQ is true. The majority of our cooking since our purchase has been done on our Baby Q, even when we were still at home. The Weber has become an integral part of our bus life routine and to date I don’t think we have had any disasters. I don’t know what their design secrets are but they work and work well. We have cooked an amazing array of different meals including roasts, pizzas, amazing vegies especially roast spuds and it does steak to perfection.
This may sound like a commercial for Weber but it’s not I am just writing what I think and I struggle to find a downside to our Baby Q. It can be very smokey but then again that adds to the flavour. Even though it has an aluminium disposable drip tray underneath it can be a little difficult to keep clean and you do need to keep them clean so that you don’t have fire issues. There is a whole host of accessories that you can purchase but if they have the Weber name on them they tend to be expensive and you can buy other brand accessories that pretty much will do what you want anyway.
All in all, with our love of cooking and outdoor life I am surprised we never purchased a Weber Q earlier that we did. You can never replace campfire cooking especially slow cooked camp ovens and the whole campfire experience but when it comes to the next best thing, the Weber Baby Q has got my vote.
